Four-season insulation for below-freezing winters raises custom costs. Rural land in counties such as Lake or Kern (CA) runs $15,000 – $40,000 per acre, but a well and septic can add $15,000 – $30,000.

2026 finished-home budgets: about €53,000 – €64,000 for 20 m² in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark; €73,500 – €84,000 for 30 m². Floor area, fit-out level and country of manufacture explain most of the difference. UK land: agricultural £5,000 – £30,000 an acre, but living on it needs planning permission.
